Team captains Sydney To and Deja Sambath gave heartfelt farewell speeches at the team's awards banquet Tuesday evening at The Clubhouse at Anaheim Hills Golf Course.
Also saying goodbye were fellow seniors Sophie Kato, Maggie Brown, Bailey Maresh and Bianca Olson.

Despite a 19-point effort by senior caption Sydney To, the Lady Spartans lost 42-27 to the Pioneers of Simi Valley High on Feb. 15 in a first-round CIF playoff game.
The girls trailed by just six points at halftime, 23-17, but were able to score only 10 points in the second half.
Varsity ends the season at 14-14 overall.
Varsity will open the CIF playoffs at home Thursday at 7 p.m. against the Pioneers of Simi Valley High School.
The Pioneers' overall record this season is 11-11, compared to our record of 14-13. They are rated 369th in the state and average 47.3 points per game; the Lady Spartans are rated 416th and average 46.4.

Led by senior captain Sydney To's 15 points, Varsity topped the Yorba Linda Mustangs, 45-41, on Feb. 9 at Canyon High to secure a spot in the CIF playoffs next week.
The Lady Spartans trailed 13-9 after one quarter, but caught fire in the second quarter and took a 28-20 lead into halftime, thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Bianca Olson. The girls saw the Mustangs close to within two points at 43-41 in the fourth quarter but held on for the victory.
After Sydney, our top scorers were Freda Tafuna with seven points and Deja Sambath with six.
The girls are now 14-13 overall. Their playoff game will be Wednesday; game time and opponent will be announced Sunday.
Varsity lost to the Vanguards, 58-41, at El Modena High School on Feb. 8.

Varsity lost to El Dorado, 56-45, at home Feb. 6 as a fourth-quarter rally fell short.
The Lady Spartans trailed 40-31 after three quarters but closed the gap to one point in the fourth before coming up short. The loss was a down note on a night the team honored their five seniors: Bailey Maresh, Deja Sambath, Sydney To, Bianca Olson, Sofie Kato and Maggie Brown.
The leading scorer was Sydney with 8 points, followed by Sarah Piferi and Freda Tafuna, each with 7.
The girls are 13-12 now. Their last game is Thursday at El Modena.
Varsity was outgunned at home by the Canyon Comanches on Feb. 2, losing 55-44 despite getting 16 points from senior guard Sydney To.
Another bright spot for the Lady Spartans was the performance of freshman Freda Tafuna, who scored nine points.
The girls are now 13-11 overall and 2-3 in the North Hills League. Their next game is Tuesday night at home against El Dorado. That's also Senior Night.
El Dorado is 10-12 overall.

Led by Sophia Santangelo's 18 points, Varsity topped the El Modena Vanguards, 63-48, on Jan. 23 at home.
The girls led 28-15 at the half and never let the Vanguards get close. Sophia made six three-point shots, Sydney To and Maggie Brown each hit three, and Bianca Olson added one for a total of 13 three-pointers, just one shy of the team's season-best 14 threes in the Yorba Linda game. They also hit 13 threes in the Mission Viejo game on Jan. 5.
After Sophia, the top scorers were Bailey Maresh with 10 points and Sydney and Maggie with nine each.
The Lady Spartans are now 2-0 in North Hills League play and 13-8 overall. Next game is Friday at Canyon. The Comanches are 13-7 overall and 2-0 in league play. Their two league wins were over El Modena and Yorba Linda.

The Lady Spartans made 14 three-pointers as they defeated the Mustangs of Yorba Linda, 66-59, in a closely fought game Jan. 16 at Yorba Linda High School.
The girls led 34-23 at halftime, but the Mustangs hung in there, closing the gap to six points in the fourth quarter before the Lady Spartans pulled away.
Top scorers were Maggie Brown and Bianca Olson with 15 points each, followed by Sophia Santangelo with 14 and Baily Maresh with 10. Bianca made five threes, Sophia made four, Maggie added four and Sarah Piferi made one.
The girls' record is now 12-7. Their next game is Friday at Brea, and it 's going to be tough: The Wildcats are 15-2.
Varsity lost to the Esperanza Aztecs, 61-42, on Friday, Jan. 12, at Villa Park High School, their second loss of the week.
The Lady Spartans fell behind 19-2 in the first quarter and never recovered. Top scorer was Bailey Maresh with 10 points. Deja Sambath and Sydney To had seven each.
The girls' record is now 11-7. The 19-point loss to the Aztecs follows a 33-point loss to Foothill on Tuesday.
The Lady Spartans' next game is Tuesday at Yorba Linda, a team they beat twice last year. The Mustangs are 5-13 this season.
Varsity lost to the Foothill Knights, 71-38, at Foothill High School on Jan. 9.
The Lady Spartans fell behind 17-6 in the first quarter and trailed by 20 at halftime. The Knights' 71 points was the most our girls have given up this season, and they ended up losing by 33, their worst defeat. Previously, their largest losing margin was 10: Sunny Hills beat them 52-42 on Dec. 8.

The Orange County Register on Monday named freshman Sophia Santangelo the O.C. girls basketball player of the week after her record-setting nine three-point shots in Friday's victory over Mission Viejo.

Sophia Santangelo's record-breaking shooting led the Varsity to a 73-29 victory over the Mission Viejo Diablos on Friday, Jan. 5, at Villa Park High School.
Sophia made nine three-point field goals, breaking the single-game record of eight shared by Laura Dawson and Caitlin Bunting. Dawson set her mark in 1999; Bunting, a former Villa Park JV coach, set hers in 2011.
Sophia, a freshman, racked up 31 total points. Other leading scorers were Deja Sambath with 11; and Bianca Olson, Bailey Maresh and Caroline Beinlich with six each.
The Lady Spartans' record improves to 11-5. Friday's victory marks the ninth time this season that Varsity has topped 50 points. Next game is Tuesday at Foothill.

Varsity beat the Newport Harbor Sailors, 55-24, on Jan. 2 at Newport Harbor High School, led by Caroline Beinlich's 15 points. For the second time in a week, everyone on the roster scored.
The Lady Spartans jumped out to an 11-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back. They led 23-12 at halftime and just kept pulling away. Top scorers after Caroline were Maggie Brown with 11 points and Bianca Olson with 6.

Also Tuesday, JV defeated the Sailors, 44-14, and Frosh/Soph won 33-14. Great job by all three levels!
Varsity lost to the Longhorns of Rancho Buena Vista, 31-26, on Saturday, Dec. 30, to finish the SoCal Holiday Classic in San Diego with a 2-2 record. The leading scorer was Sophia Santangelo with nine points.
On Friday, Varsity defeated Incline High School of Incline Village, Nev., 34-28. Top scorers were Bailey Maresh and Sarah Piferi with eight points each.
On Thursday, Varsity beat the Golden Valley Cougars of Merced, 56-38. Every girl on the Villa Park roster scored, led by Sophia Santangelo with 12 points and Deja Sambath with 8.
On Wednesday, Varsity lost in double overtime to the Carlsbad Eagles, 65-57. Top scorers were Bailey Maresh with 18 points and Deja Sambath with 12.
